Pender
This humble, quiet young man established the Freeholds, and as such, the inhabitants often regard him as something just short of a King. This has the amusing effect of often flustering this otherwise mellow character, as he is also incredibly shy. Those who know him have decided that it is generally a good thing that people look to him so often; he has certainly grown a good deal since opening the Freehold to others.
Rendel
Rendel is a curious young lad looking to know. He wants to understand -- well, everything! One would think that this would make him a bookworm, but instead he learns from the field, actively training monsters and investigating phenomena. He can oftentimes be found consulting Rossalin Smith regarding her research, and loves to explore the Freehold and beyond.
Cezar Brinston
Cezar is one of Pender's closest friends in the Freehold, despite the noticable age difference between the two. A man possessed of an incredibly big heart, otherwise belied by his gruff exterior, he would look far more comfortable in an armory than the toy shop that he owns. Regardless, Cezar is friendly to everyone who passes through his shop, and has earned himself the title of patriarchal figure to many.
Rossalin Smith
Schooled in Biology and Chemistry, Rossalin is a budding scholar interested in the complexity of the Freehold, and loves to explore the scientific roots and implications of new findings. She left the City because she decided that the scientific community there was too close-minded to discovering new things, and instead was focused on improving old technology. Having a completely different mindset, the Freehold serves as a haven for her to carry out her unorthodox experiments without being under the eye of other scientists. Well-regarded within that community, however, she keeps her ties with them and occasionally sends reports back regarding her research. She is incredibly intelligent and has the largest textbook collection of all the Freehold, as well as the most complex laboratory. Additionally, she runs the Alchemy and Minerals shop, selling minerals she's finished testing and potions and elixirs she has engineered. Anyone with an interest in science should talk with Rossalin, as she is incredibly social when it comes to her research, and loves talking to others to hear about different theories and ideas.
Mac Henderson
Mac is the incredibly young, ridiculously good-looking owner of The Broken Plate tavern. Nobody knows where he came from or why he's here, but he's a study in contradictions. Friendly but reserved, he is well-practiced at the role of barkeep and is able to listen and comfort for hours on end - a talent that has earned him no few number of female admirers.
Taryn Varse
Storekeeper and former keeper, Taryn is an adventurous young woman with a heart of gold. Though she has given up her dream of being a keeper, she has decided to remain amongst the monsters she loved for so long; in that vein, she opened the Main Street Market to remain in the midst of the Freehold. As the first storekeeper -- and one of the first women -- in Freehold City, Taryn has built quite a reputation for herself among the rest of the inhabitants of the city.
